GUEST OPINION: It has been eight years since the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21), the milestone event that saw the signing of the Paris Agreement. Since then, countries around the world have doubled down on their energy transition efforts, with some even aiming to reach net zero by 2050. Australia, in particular, had loftier ambitions. The Australian Government made international headlines for its target to achieve 82% renewable energy usage by 2030. But with COP28 just days away, Australia needs to have a reality check.
