After initially saying that the Australian Federal Opposition “sabotaged” the definite rollout date for digital TV in Australia, Federal Communications Minister Senator Conroy now says the Opposition has instead “backed down” and has decided to help deliver a clear signal on when analog will be no more, and digital will rule the day – the 31st of December, 2013.

Digital TV sabotaged by opposition, says Conroy

The Australian Government claims the switchover to digital television planned for 2013 has been put into doubt following Opposition amendments to the Digital Television Switchover Bill 2008 that were passed in the Senate today.

Digital TV in Australia

The five major Australian cities are due to have analog TV turned off at the end of next year, progressively the remainder of the country will be forced to convert by 2013.  So, knowing that any equipment older than around 5 years will stop working in 18 months, how are we doing?
