After 13 quarters, smartphone vendor Huawei has returned to the top of the list for the mainland China market, shipping 11.7 million units in the first three months of 2024 and capturing a 17% market share, the technology analyst firm Canalys says, attributing this to the performance of its Mate and nova series.

Apple has grabbed the top spot in global smartphone shipments for 2023, the first time it has done so and also the first time that a company other than Samsung has taken that position since 2010, the technology analyst firms Canalys and IDC report.

Smartphone shipments in China during the third quarter of 2022 increased marginally over the previous three months but, at 70.0 million units, represented a 11% year-on-year fall.

Smartphone shipments in the third quarter of 2022 fell for the third consecutive time this year, with a 9% decrease year-on-year, the technology analyst firm Canalys says, adding that this made it the worst third quarter since 2014.
