VIDEO: Griffin’s WatchStand, an Apple Watch charging dock

By

If you want an upstanding charging solution for your Apple Watch and a way to make charging even easier and really stand out, take a look.

The first thing you need to know about Griffin’s WatchStand is that it does not incorporate its own wireless charging clip for the Apple Watch, but uses the one that comes in the Apple Watch box.

You clip the existing charging pad to the top of the WatchStand, and wrap any excess cord around the inner portion of the WatchStand’s central column, which can be vertically pulled out of the unit.

Then the remaining part of the charging cable comes out of the back of the stand and plugs into a USB wall charging plug.

This explains why Griffin’s WatchStand is US$29.99, with Australian pricing yet to be announced, and the WatchStand itself not due to arrive until ‘mid-year from all good Australian retailers’.

You can see full details of Griffin’s WatchStand here, and we’ve embedded Griffin’s intro teaser video below.

WatchStand is just the first of a promised range of Apple Watch accessories from Griffin, with Mark Rowan, President of Griffin Technology stating: “Griffin has long been at the forefront of developing accessories for Apple’s newest devices and we’re continuing that legacy with our WatchStand charging dock for the Apple Watch.”

The company describes its WatchStand as being able to display ‘the Apple Watch on a sleek pedestal which holds it at an easy viewing angle while it charges. To keep the Watch securely in place, the WatchStand features the Apple-provided magnetic charging cable, which users will feed into the centre of the post during initial assembly. To charge, simply lay the Apple Watch against the cradle for the magnetic connector to latch itself onto the back of the Watch to begin charging.’

You can place WatchStand on your nightstand, tabletop, desktop or any level surface for ‘convenient daily charging’, while its grooved internal post eliminates the hassle of tangled cords by letting you wrap any excess cordage around it.

Compatible with all versions of the Apple Watch, it will accommodate both the semi-flexible and fully flexible bands - and you can display the watch either horizontally or vertically.

As you can see in the image at the top of this article, WatchStand also features a place for your iPhone, as its base its weighted with a raised lip on the front of the dock, letting you prop up your phone up at an angle for easy viewing.

So, while we await even more Apple Watch accessories from a plethora of accessory makers to come, Griffin’s WatchStand is a simple yet effective accessory to watch out for.
