Nextbase launches Nextbase iQ - world-first smart, connected dash cam

By

Nextbase today announced the latest version of its dash cam range, the Nextbase iQ, with a truly stunning array of features that bring the best of smart home monitoring to your car. It’s like having a black box in your car.

The Nextbase iQ features include 4K front resolution and two additional 1440p cameras covering the cabin and the rear, all in one device. It offers infra-red for recording both day and night. Other features include witness mode, live view, native voice control, real-time tracking, valet mode, incident notifications, Roadwatch AI, emergency SOS, driver awareness, and smart sense parking.

It's a truly remarkable piece of kit that completely re-imagines what a dash cam is and does, and brings smarts and connectivity to your dash cam. Of course, it records the road in front of you as you’d expect, helping you to defend claims in the event of a motoring accident. However, it does much, much more to transform the driver experience and make your vehicle smarter, safe, and more secure.

You can receive real-time alerts, access incidents video, see real-time video, and more through a free companion iQ app even when you are away from the vehicle.

The three cameras can record outside and inside the vehicle, and in response to increasing road rage or other concerning incidents it offers ‘witness mode’, a voice-activated instant-on recording feature that automatically saves to the cloud and shares with an emergency contact or other designated third party in real-time. You do not need to face a stressful situation on the road by yourself again.

The cameras also precisely capture license plates, street signs, and all other critical details in the event of an incident.

Built-in spatial awareness smarts use artificial intelligence to anticipate and record incidents both while you are in or away from your vehicle. It offers fast and reliable cloud connectivity with dual-link Wi-Fi and 4G and brings ultra-high-accuracy GPS satellite positioning for fast and convenient vehicle tracking.

Valet mode allows you to set a number of triggers to alert you to certain conditions when the vehicle is not in your possession - such as when it is being valet parked, or is at a workshop, or has been loaned to another driver.

Roadwatch AI provides real-time monitoring of other vehicles' speeds and trajectories.

Emergency SOS automatically alerts emergency services with the location and other critical details if a serious accident takes place. Nextbase is the only dash cam brand offering this feature.

Meanwhile, Driver Aware features smart driver monitoring to combat distracted driving or drowsy driving, while the Vehicle Aware system uses spatial awareness capabilities to warn drivers of vehicle or pedestrian danger.

Smart Sense Parking captures critical moments before and after any incident while the car is parked, tunable to specific circumstances. The camera allows you to keep informed of what’s going on with your car while you are away from it and provides you with the opportunity to observe and act.

“The Nextbase iQ doesn’t simply elevate dash cam functionality, it establishes a whole new category of smart, connected technology for the car,” said Browning. “We are now enabling every vehicle on the road to be equipped with safety, security and assistance above what’s available in today’s newest cars. The powerful Ambarella AI-capable chipset we’re using in the Nextbase iQ enables us to continuously roll out further cutting-edge driver technology upgrades via the Cloud, giving access to the very latest driver safety and security features for years to come.”

“There is nothing on the market that rises to the level of Nextbase iQ,” said Richard Browning, chief marketing and sales officer, Nextbase. “Over two years and from the ground up, we have re-imagined what a dash cam can be and created the world’s first true Smart dash cam, utilising AI-technology and Cloud-connectivity to give drivers a complete sense of safety and security.

“Never before has there been a smart connected-car product that offers so much benefit in one package. We have bettered our already best-in-class dash cam functionality and added never-before-seen technology to support drivers, whether they are on the road or away from their vehicle.

“We’re looking forward to bringing this exciting, innovative and forward-thinking product to Australia. Having officially entered this market in September 2020, we have grown in tandem with the Australian road user community – conducting research into what they truly care about while on the road, and where our product fits in to help them feel safe, trusted and secure. 45% of Aussie’s believe dash cams should be mandatory in road vehicles and one in four change their driving behaviour when they know a dash cam is recording them. Nextbase is committed to continuing growing with the Australian market, being their guardian on the road, and offering the best-in-class products so all road users feel protected and safe,” Browning said.

Nextbase dash cams are available from leading retailers including Repco, The Good Guys, Officeworks, Bing Lee, and Camera House.
