Finder caught in the ACT dudding Canberrans from $200K Bitcoin giveaway - but is the ACT Govt to blame?

By

Well known and popular comparison site Finder is giving away an incredible $200,000 in Bitcoin to Australians who download the free Finder app and join the Bitcoin Drop Party, but sadly, those in the ACT are unable to join the party this time around.

Ok, ok, so my headline is clickbait-y on purpose, but it's true. Canberrans - no free Bitcoin soup for you!

I asked Finder about this, given I live in the ACT, and Finder kindly sent me the following statement:

“We were hoping this would be a national campaign. NSW, SA, and the ACT all require competition permits for these sort of giveaways, and unfortunately permission from the ACT did not come through in time.

“We couldn't wait as the permit was already approved in NSW and SA, and the dates were locked in as a result.

“Rest assured, there’s a heap of exciting new features to come in the Finder app which will be available to everyone, including in the ACT. Finder is releasing a “Refer A Friend” feature in the coming weeks and those who successfully refer a friend to the Finder app will be rewarded with $10 ($10 for them and $10 for the friend) in their Finder wallet.”

Of course, that means if you're not in the ACT, there's a greater chance you'll win some Bitcoin, so if you're keen, download the app and join the party, as you have to be in it to win it!

All of that said, giving away $200K worth of Bitcoin is still a big deal, with a Finder survey of more than 6,000 Australians finding those who own cryptocurrency report being happier than those who don’t, with four in five (81%) cryptocurrency owners say they are happy, compared to 75% of non-investors, according to the research, with 1 in 5 or 21% of Aussies surveyed owning crypto.

So, why is Finder undertaking this giveaway? Well, besides Finder being a master of drumming up great publicity for its ever growing suite of products and services, it is also to celebrate the launch of fee-free crypto trading in the Finder app.

No doubt the promotion has already seen traffic soar at the Finder site, and has drummed up a frenzy of Finder app downloads, with the Bitcoin Drop Party to run until 5pm AEDT on Monday 7 March - so you haven't got long to take advantage!

Kate Browne, personal finance expert at Finder, said the party was a fun and easy way for Aussies to dip their toe into the world of crypto, and added: "Whether you’re completely new to crypto or a seasoned expert, you’re guaranteed to get between $5 and $100 if you join Finder’s Bitcoin Drop Party.

“If you’re lucky, you could win even more. There's $200,000 in Bitcoin up for grabs – but get in quick!

“It’s super easy to join the party. Find and claim a valid "ticket" on our website, on Finder's social media channels or out and about – and follow the prompts on your phone.”

Browne also added buying crypto is no longer just for the early adopter, stating: "Despite Bitcoin’s volatile nature, interest in the digital currency is continuing to grow. This number is highest among Gen Z (34%) and Millennials (33%).”

Interestingly, noted Finder, Gen Z are just as likely to own a credit card (35%) as they are to own cryptocurrency, and they are even less likely to know their credit score (27%).

Here are Finder's instructions on how to claim your free Bitcoin in Finder’s Bitcoin Drop Party:

  • Find and claim a valid "ticket" on the Finder website, on Finder's social media channels or out and about.
  • Download the Finder app and complete the wallet identity process.

You will also be able to get daily chances at winning another Bitcoin drop until the end of the promotion by taking at least one of the following actions:

  • Buy crypto in the Finder app
  • Set up a recurring trade in the Finder app
  • Successfully invite a friend to the Finder app
