The Arcane League of Legends season one Blu-Ray release is a rollicking good romp for LoL fans and newcomers alike

By

Even if you have only a passing interest in gaming you'll have heard of League of Legends, pretty much the definitive MOBA-style game. Arcane is the award-winning fan-favourite animated series based on LoL and it's available on Blu-Ray in Australia now, packed with loads of special features.

Independent Australian film, anime, and pop culture distributor Sugoi Co has released the Blu-Ray of Arcane season one here in Australia. And, it's no mere Blu-Ray; it's loaded with bonus features and the publisher's dedication to, and love of, the Arcane series shines through, making it a must-have for League of Legenders lovers, anime fans, and simply anyone who enjoys a great tale in a magical steampunk universe.

The release comes in various editions, with an amazing array of physical materials to truly bolster your watching experience.

These are:

  • 4K UHD collector's edition - $224.95, featuring all nine episodes in glorious 4K resolution and mastered in Dolby Vision HDR, as well as standard Blu-Ray discs in case you don't have a 4K TV (yet). Also, the package includes exclusive "Hexcore" oversized metal D20 dice for your own tabletop gaming, 7 "hex crystal" liquid core resin dice, velvet dice pouch, double-sided progress day posted with original Jinx graffiti, 6 art cards featuring Power's drawings, and a fabric Caitlyn's Piltover map.
  • Steelbook 4K UHD - $79.95, in a nice Jinx-themed steelbook case, and three 4K UHD discs containing the saga plus bonus features.
  • Steelbook Blu-Ray - $69.96, with Vi-themed steelbook cae, and the saga plus bonus features across three regular HD Blu-Ray discs.
  • Standard Blu-Ray - $59.95, with all the essentials. All nine episodes of Arcane season one on Blu-Ray, over three hours of bonus features, and original cover art from the cast of characters.

To be extra clear, all releases include the entire nine episode run of Arcane season one, and a great collection of bonus features such as the making of Arcane featurettes and scene breakdowns. The main difference is whether you want 4K or HD, or 4K and HD, plus how important a stylish steel case is to you, as well as the amazing physical bonus features in the collector's edition.

Either way, you get a great story. Check out the official teaser trailer here:

You don't need to have played League of Legends to enjoy the story. Arcane is based on champions and lore from that gaming universe, but can be completely enjoyed by itself. The story follows two orphaned sisters - Vi and Powder - as they fight to make a name for themselves in the derelict underground alleyways of Zaun. The sisters long for a day where they can experience the wealth and opulence of the city of Piltover just above them. The sisters, and friends also from the underground, plot and undertake a heist that - while originally seemingly simple - will forever alter their destinies and the fate of the cities.

The story brings a strong range of characters with stunning artwork in a trully thrilling clash of power and politics, along with magical forces beyond their understanding.

Arcane brings the League of Legends world to life and delivers a truly heart-wrenching storyline. It's easy to see why Arcane is an Emmy-winning series. In fact, it's a return to the good old days - the days of Blu-Ray before streaming where you would look forward to a new release and all its awesome included bonuses. It's also a return to good old-fashioned storytelling with exciting action, character development, a rich storyline based on a well-established lore but without requiring you to already know the game and characters, and all rendered in truly brilliant animation that takes the best from both East and West.

Arcane was originally released in November 2021 and was well-regarded for its high production values. It won four Emmy awards including Outstanding Animated Program, along with nine Annie awards.

It's highly-recommended - LoL gamers will love it, anime fans will love it, Blu-Ray collectors will love it, and anyone who enjoys a great fantasy tale with richly-developed worldbuilding will love it also.

In fact, while I know of League of Legends and played it a couple of times, I wasn't up on the lore at all. Not only was the show highly accessible - and truly gripping - but it was a good opportunity to watch it with my Anime-loving gamer teenage son who was keen to tell me all the references I'd otherwise have missed.

And, sure, you can watch it on Netflix, but there's something special about having the physical copy to view whenever you want, and not least to enjoy the special features. There is over three hours of extra content all about the making of the series and breaking down scenes, giving wonderful insights into the production choices.

You can find Arcane season one on Blu-Ray both at JB Hi-Fi and via Suigo.Co.

You can also find more information on the storyline at IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes, where it has a whopping 100% approval score.
