Review - The Dot for iOS

By

The Dot is an entertaining hand-drawn motion-controlled puzzler for iOS devices.

The Dot has a simple premise: get your "dot" (or ink blot perhaps) to the level's exit by tilting your device to set it rolling in the direction you need, or press to jump onto the various platforms you may find.

Of course, it wouldn't be much of a game if that's all there was to it. Toconfound your dot's escape you will find you need to activate buttons, push blocks, manage treadmills, work with cars and helicopters, and generally use your smarts to figure out the various challenges presented to you, as they increase in difficulty across 96 levels.

I'm not ordinarily a fan of games that use motion controls but The Dot has such a clean and minimalist hand-drawn artistic style that you cannot help but find it appealing, as if the action was taking place on a piece of paper in front of your eyes.

The Dot was written by Alessandro Mar Ferrazza who has several other iOS apps available, though of a medical nature based on the author's background as a physician. In the short time I've had this game Ferrazza has released two updates which is a good sign of continuing support and development.

You can find The Dot available on the iOS app store with a universal version for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad alike, under the full name of The Dot - A Logic Game. Click here for a screenshot.

In addition to challenging yourself, The Dot keeps a record of your statistics thus allowing you to compare your progress to others and creating a sense of competition.

For anyone seeking a challenging puzzle or platform game which you can play for minutes or hours at a time, The Dot is well worth a good look.
