Review - Ainigma

By

Ainigma is a challenging visual puzzle game which will entertain you and at times drive you mad. For the competitive, the publisher offers prizes for top scores.

Ainigma is a visual puzzle game from Pio Games, available on the Apple App Store. The player is presented with a series of square blocks which must be moved by sliding left, right, up and down to recreate the target picture.

A fixed number of moves is permitted per challenge which adds to the game's complexity and addictive frustration. You cannot undo a wrong move, and you cannot experiment and come to the solution via a longer route; you can only win a level by working out the correct solution. For those truly stuck in-app purchases allow additional moves to be obtained for real money.

Ainimga provides a small tutorial which visually indicates what to do, but does so without using any words. Being the user's first interaction with the game, the tutorial only provides a very little amount of help in my experience, and some effort is still required to work out just what to do.

Let me try and assist. Click here to see a sample puzzle, in its starting state.

Now click here to see the completed puzzle. So now you know what it looks like and what you are aiming for! The hard part is in getting the first picture to look like the second.

The game has a social element, allowing players to share their scores, and in fact to win prizes from the publisher. If you're looking for a mind game which can be played in long or short bursts, and which has the potential for reward as you improve, then Ainimga could be the game for you!
