Proximity says the report outlines a raft of ethical initiatives across three pillars - Environmental Stewardship, Social Responsibility, and Client Impact – and serves as a benchmark against which the company will measure progress against as it continues to grow.
Proximity’s CEO Zoe Lynam says the business takes its responsibility to communities and the planet seriously and endeavours to embed ESG into every aspect of its operations.
“We’re thrilled to publish our first Impact Report that marks an important milestone for Proximity. Since our inception, we’ve been committed to making a positive impact,” said Lynam.

Proximity notes that it is committed to giving back to the community and has three Community Themes: improving mental health; progressing reconciliation and empowerment; and preventing domestic and family violence - and it provides long-term, sustainable pro bono support to six organisations including Menslink, a service that helps young men reach their potential, and the Women’s Legal Centre (ACT & Region), that provides legal and social assistance to support women and families to stay connected and stay safe.
“We see the real value of pro bono work for both the communities we serve and our team’s sense of purpose. We have exceeded the Australian Pro Bono Centre’s voluntary and aspirational target of 35 pro bono hours per lawyer per annum for the past five years. We foster pro bono opportunities and encourage our employees to get involved across all three practice areas – consulting, legal and commercial,” says Lynam.
Proximity notes that thiss year, it undertook a comprehensive review of its supply chain, covering 52 categories across 7 business functions and identified 80 sustainable alternatives - and looking ahead, it has committed to transitioning 20 per cent of its goods and services to sustainable suppliers in FY25.
“Proximity works on projects that span the breadth of the Commonwealth - including for the Department of Defence, Industry Science and Resources, Home Affairs, Veterans Affairs, Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, Department of Health and Aged Care, National Disability Insurance Agency, Services Australia - providing a range of services to address clients’ greatest challenges,” notes Proximity.
“Proximity was finalist for the Government Team of the Year at the 2024 Australian Law Awards recently and received winner in this category at the 2022 and 2017 Awards.
“Proximity was recently successful in being listed on the Whole of Australian Government Legal Services Panel (the Panel) and is on 19 other federal and state panels such as the Australian Government Management Advisory Services Panel (MASP) and Defence Support Services Panel to name a few.”
“We know our clients and employees want to partner with ethical, purpose-driven organisations, and we are committed to meeting those expectations. As a government focused organisation, we’re hyper aware of the ever-changing and unique landscape the public sector operates within. As we continue to grow, so too does our ability to create meaningful, lasting change,” concluded Lynam.
