The ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock’ tournaments, held in Sydney and Melbourne last weekend courtesy of Presto https://www.presto.com.au were a rousing success!

Last week, Presto announced it was holding ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock’ tournaments in Sydney and Melbourne, as iTWire wrote about here.

Well, it turns out they went off with a big bang, and the theory was proven!

Of the two events, Presto asked: ‘What do you get if you cross a cult TV show, a twist on an age-old game, a miniature boxing ring, a famous comic book store and hundreds of Aussies, some dressed in Cosplay?’

You got the first - and second (for 2015) - The Big Bang Theory-inspired ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock’ tournaments in Australia, which, as noted, descended on Sydney and Melbourne this weekend.

Presumably the tournaments will be on again next year, but last week, fans of the show put their nerves and hand cramp to one side for over six hours in a ‘best-of-five’ winner stays on format.

They battled it out in a packed comic book store in Sydney and Melbourne to take the title of the first official ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock’ Champion 2015.

Presto hosted the event to celebrate the announcement that the first seven full seasons of The Big Bang Theory are available on the streaming service.

The hilariously award winning US comedy mixes high IQs with low social skills has been a massive hit worldwide, and Presto has been very active in letting everyone know it is not only streaming the first seven seasons on the Presto SVOD network, but that the eighth season will come to Presto in 2016, to.

In keeping with one of the favourite haunts of the show’s characters, Presto hosted the tournaments at Kings Comics in Sydney and All Star Comics in Melbourne amid a colourful backdrop of inspired and outlandish Cosplay including magazine characters and superheros.

‘Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock’ was created by internet pioneer and blogger, Sam Kass and made famous when Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) introduced viewers to the unique twist on the game in “The Lizard-Spock Expansion” (S02E08) episode of The Big Bang Theory.

The game was designed to create more winning variables than the traditional ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’, allowing players who know each other well to avoid landing on the same choices.

Commenting, Shaun James, CEO of Presto, says: “We couldn’t believe the high standard of Cosplay and The Big Bang Theory fancy dress on show - Aussie fans have to be some of the most dedicated and competitive in the world!

“We were thrilled to be able gave fans of the show the first opportunity to play ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock’ in a competitive environment in the Southern Hemisphere; an amazing day was had by all."

More below.

As per usual, Presto has a 30-day trial for those who haven’t trailed it before.

You can try beating Sheldon at his own game via Presto's Facebook page here.

The rules of ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock’:
