Go-ahead for NEXTDC Melbourne

NEXTDC has gained development approval for its Melbourne data centre.
Fledgeling data centre operator NEXTDC has received development approval for its proposed 'M1' data centre. The Melbourne data centre is to be constructed in Port Melbourne.

As previously announced, FDC Construction and Fitout will this month commence preliminary construction works on the site. Engineering company Arup will lead the technical design.

NEXTDC's project and facilities manager for the Port Melbourne site is Glen Morcom, previously building and electrical services manager with Crown Casino Melbourne.

The company previously announced that Harbour MSP will be its first Melbourne tenant.

The site of NEXTDC's Brisbane data centre was not directly affected by the recent floods, but will not go live until late May due to delays to the high voltage installation work.

The company is expected to announce the site of its Sydney data centre this month.
