Eleven vulnerabilities are fixed in Update 33 and hence in Java for OS X 2012-004 and Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 9.
It remains to be seen whether this prompt release is related to the handover of responsibility for Java for Mac to Oracle, or if it marks a new level of attention to security issues by Apple. Or perhaps the company is particularly sensitive about Java in the wake of the widespread infections caused by the Flashback malware which exploited a known but unpatched (as far as the Mac version was concerned) vulnerability in Java.
