Medcart hits $10 million in annual sales

Health and medical start-up Medcart has achieved annual sales of close to $10 million in less than 12 months with the help of tech platform Marketplacer.

“We spotted a gap in the market for high-quality PPE items in Australia,” comments Medcart founder Phil Leahy. “Thanks to the power of the Marketplacer team, we were able to design the portal and have it up and running in just one month.”

“Ongoing fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic was causing strong demand for PPE. Many health facilities and care providers have struggled to obtain sufficient stock of everything from face masks and protective visors to scrubs and gloves,” Leahy said.

“There was no mechanism in place to assist staff to locate manufacturers and place PPE orders,” Leahy added.

Meanwhile, manufacturers also faced the challenge of finding new customers and informing them of their range of offerings.

“This is the challenge that Medcart set out to solve,” he said. “We realised an online portal could be developed that brought together health and medical suppliers with customers.”

Leahy said establishing the portal in such a short timeframe would not have been possible without the support of Marketplacer.

“They have delivered a platform that fully supports our operations and will help us achieve strong future growth,” he said.

An innovative online portal
Powered by Marketplacer, the Medcart portal provides images of health and medical supplies together with detailed descriptions and prices.

Customers can search the portal and enquire about bulk trade orders or select the products they require, make payment, and have them shipped directly from the provider.

“Medcart removes the stress for health and medical suppliers to create their own website or portal to reach customers across Australia,” said Leahy. “Customers can quickly identify suppliers that have the equipment required to ensure ongoing high-quality care can be delivered.”

New items can be added to the Medcart portal. Additional categories are being launched to support the needs of the 50,000 customers that are shopping with MedCart.

Leahy said the company’s future plans include the ongoing expansion of the product range into areas such as pharmaceutical supplies and beauty retailers.

“We are confident the portal will continue to grow and provide a valuable service for Australian consumers wanting trusted medical supplies,” said Leahy. “Marketplacer will continue to be a valuable technology partner for us in the future.”

Medcart is an online marketplace designed to streamline the way healthcare organisations and workers locate and procure personal protective equipment (PPE). It is now extending its offering into pharmacy, health, and beauty.

With more than 80 distributors, manufacturers, and retailers, customers can find what they want and have it delivered to their doorstep.
