HTC goes One Two Featured

By

Taiwanese phone manufacturer HTC is prepping the next edition of its One handset, to be known as either the HTC One 2 or HTC M8, and the device's early specifications have been leaked thanks to a certification document.

A Wi-Fi certification document filed with the WiFi Alliance has revealed the phone, expected to ship in 2014, will boast a Wi-Fi antenna capable of switching between two bands – 5GHz and 2.4GHz, a feature yet to be seen in a smartphone.

According to the document the phone will also support all of the Wi-Fi standards, including the latest 802.11ac, and other (rumoured) specifications include a 2.26GHz Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, Qualcomm Adreno 330 GPU, 2GB RAM and a 5-inch screen with full-HD 1,920 x 1,080 resolution.

The phone is also expected to sport a full metal body, like its predecessor.

While the certification document is conclusive proof that HTC's new flagship smartphone is on the way, UK High Court Judge Richard Arnold had already revealed that HTC will be launching its new phone “in the first quarter of 2014 and possibly as early as February 2014", in his ruling earlier this month on a patent infringement lawsuit filed by Nokia. Nokia won that lawsuit, though a later court decision eased a ban on HTC One Mini smartphones.

HTC also announced today that, according to the company, the HTC One has officially become the most-awarded smartphone of the year.

The HTC One’s achievements include being named T3 Magazine’s 'Gadget of the Year' and Pocket-Lint’s 'Phone of the Year'. It also picked up awards from TechRadar at Mobile World Congress, The Mobile Choice Awards, What Mobile and Recombu.

Stay tuned for any HTC One 2 news as it comes to light.
