Your web pages might load faster, thanks to Akamai & Strangeloop

By

Akamai Technologies - which claims to deliver up to 30 percent of all web traffic - has formed a partnership with Strangeloop under which Akami's global cloud optimisation services will be combined with Strangeloop's web content optimisation (WCO) "allowing content providers to achieve even faster Web page rendering times."

According to Akami, "Web content optimisation technology takes HTML that has been optimised for readability, supportability and maintainability and, while retaining these benefits, transforms it to HTML that is optimised for fast page rendering."

This, it says "involves implementing numerous best practices such as rewriting object names, re-ordering when and how objects are rendered, re-ordering when scripts are executed, and optimising content based on the requesting browser."

In the past, Akamai says "This time-consuming work could only be performed manually by developers with specific performance expertise....Strangeloop's Site Optimizer technology is specifically designed to simplify web code optimisation from a lengthy and complex coding process into an automated function that provides roundtrip reduction, rapid rendering, dynamic browser caching as well as a host of other acceleration best practices.

Akamai's vice president, application and site acceleration, Willie Tejada, said: "WCO is an emerging technology that complements Akamai's focus on performance. For sites with many objects, heavy JavaScript or content below the fold, this feature is already showing further performance improvements when combined with Akamai's globally distributed network and world-class site and application acceleration services.

"Akamai provides the ideal architecture for content providers looking to leverage Strangeloop, as our massive cloud network affords us to be in close proximity to the origin as well as to the world's Internet users."

Strangeloop was founded in 2006. Its original product offering was the Strangeloop AS1000, a delivery-focused accelerator for ASP.NET. Site Optimizer was launched in 2010.
