The app - Ausmed On-the-Go - is being launched by Melbourne-based nursing education and technology company Ausmed Education, which next Monday will begin streaming 168 hours of lectures via its new app.
Ausmed Founder and CEO Cynthea Wellings said the app was designed to help nurses access high quality professional education “anywhere and at any time”, regardless of their shifts and other commitments.
“This year’s theme for International Nurses Day is ‘Nurses: A Force for Change – A vital resource for health’, and the International Council of Nurses has identified education as a fundamental source of empowerment for nurses to effect change, and improve patient care.

“The app is just one of the technology-based, flexible options Ausmed offers to help nurses access relevant programs and document their training to meet the standards set by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.”
Wellings said Ausmed On-the-Go was the latest addition to Ausmed’s innovative learning suite for the largest segment of the national healthcare workforce.
According to Wellings, daily downloads have exceeded expectations since it was launched in January this year, and the installation figures continue to rise.
She said the new on-the-go app was quick and easy to download from the Apple iTunes store - with an Android version about to be released – and connects the user to Ausmed’s extensive online library of Australian nursing lectures (for subscribers) and automatically synchronises with Ausmed’s CPD Organiser reporting tool.
“These features and the browsing-by-topic option have seen the app become a popular tool for nurses completing the mandatory 20 or more CPD hours required every year to maintain their registration in Australia,” Wellings said.
Wellings said the free access to 240+ lectures via the Ausmed On-the-Go app for IND demonstrated the company’s commitment to improving patient care through education and technology.
“We’re a team of highly motivated nursing and technology professionals designing learning experiences that are interesting, practical, evidence-based and relevant.
“With the Ausmed On-the-Go app we’re now able to make it even easier for nurses and midwives to engage with our courses and meet their CPD education and documentation requirements.”
Ausmed had launched Australia’s first web-based tool for organising nursing CPD in 2010, and the online Learning Centre was also the first Australian organisation to be accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association.
Wellings said Ausmed has been responding to nurses’ educational needs for nearly three decades and had transitioned successfully from a printed textbook publisher to an online resources innovator “in sync with the development of today’s tech-savvy nursing workforce.”
