Nextgen managing director, Phil Sykes, said: "Nextgen offers an integrated package including PoI connectivity and NBN access through to the customer premises. NBN Connect enables small and medium service providers with a presence in a single data centre to connect into a Nextgen point of presence in those data centres and instantly market services to customers across the entire NBNCo access footprint.
"For larger ISPs with a substantial number of customers nationally, the NBN Connect product suite offers quality-of-service, layer 2 private networking to NBN PoIs or individual high capacity transmission links to PoIs."
Sykes told iTWire that NBN Connect had two options for service providers wanting connectivity to end customers on the NBN. "One is a complete virtual ISP package where we are adding IP transit and Internet content to the access. Or, if they source their Internet transit from another upstream service provider they can inject their own Internet content into that access."
These services will enable any organisation that wants to sell content or services online to reach the entire NBN customer base without having to enter into any relationship with NBNCo or to interface to any NBNCo systems, and to do so if it wishes from a single connection to the Nextgen network.
Sykes said: "We are absorbing the elements of service activation service assurance and ultimately billing and volume based charging and I think that will create some interesting competitive tensions in the market place'¦What we provide is a way for people to get started with minimal scale: they might have only two or three customers in one fibre serving area.

He added: "We will offer different classes of service for things like video. There is strong indication that existing service providers want a class of service for voice, and for video and another class of service for business Internet, as well as best effort."
The NBN Connect service will operate in trial mode until NBNCo upgrades services in its five first release sites from trials to commercial offerings later this year. Nextgen also has to develop its OSS/BSS to interface to NBNCo's nascent OSS/BSS systems.
Sykes said: "These are trial services initially until 1 September to enable us to understand the operational processes and the interfaces and develop our business model with NBNCo and the service providers ahead of commercial services late this year."
Pricing is also presently still in not finalised. "It is still somewhat fluid," Sykes said. "They have specified prices for residential services but they are yet to specify prices for business customers and other content related service classes. We are working closely with NBNCo to understand the evolving pricing models and we will build our pricing models accordingly."
Nextgen already has its first customer for the service, Townsville based service provider, Internet Solutions. It will use NBN Connect to provide high speed broadband services over NBN fibre to customers in the first release NBN trial areas.
Other customers are likely to follow soon. Sykes said: "We have relationships with pretty well every ISP in Australia and we are in discussion with them about the various options we offer."
