According to Donald McLean, business development director for Online One, the system is being used by warehouse pickers, who wear the barcode scanner on a lanyard around their neck, scan a product and automatically update the NetSuite ERP system via the iPad. According to the company this is faster and reduces the error rate.
'The product idea came from what we do in the field. At the same time that the iPad came out we were developing something for customers to do picking - they previously used paper, but our goal is to do away with paper.
'The iPad is a perfect form factor, with the ability to have just a touchscreen,' said Mr McLean.
He said that in the future the company would make the system available for Android based tablet computers also.
Chris Schafer, APAC managing director of NetSuite, issued a statement saying that; 'Technologies like the Apple iPad provide tantalising market opportunities for ISVs (independent software vendors) - but only if they can address these opportunities quickly and cost effectively. '
Mr Schafer claimed that the oneScan system allowed wholesale and distribution companies to cut operating costs and improve efficiency.
