Sony reveals SRS-XV900, 'loudest' party speaker

By

Sony's SRS-XV900 is the most powerful and loudest Bluetooth speaker in the X-series range, according to the company.

The SRS-XV900 delivers omnidirectional sound from the X-Balanced speaker unit with a 32cm woofer, two midrange drivers and six tweeters on the front, side and back to widely spread high frequency sound.

Like other members of the range, the SRS-XV900 includes Sony's Mega Bass feature for deep, punchy bass - but please think of your neighbours! There's also Live Sound mode to help recreate the live music experience.

The battery is said to be good for 25 hours' use, and offers a quick charge feature that gives three hours of playing time from 10 minutes of charging. Reverse charging is included in case the phone or other music source needs a top up.

The SRS-XV900 is also designed to improve the sound of any TV that has an optical output. The TV Sound Booster mode is said to deliver deep bass and realistic high-frequency sound to fill the room.

Either two microphones or a mic and a guitar can be connected (eg, for karaoke sessions), and vocals can be enhanced with the double tracking, echo, and voice changer features via the Fiestable mobile app. There's also a stereo minijack input and an USB interface for playing music from non-Bluetooth sources.

The SRS-XV900 is compatible with the Sony | Music Center app for control of features including playlists, lighting patterns and sound modes.

Party Connect via Bluetooth allows as many as 100 compatible Sony Bluetooth speakers to deliver synchronised sound and lighting for larger events. NB, this does not include speakers with the Wireless Party Chain capability.

Castors and a handle make it easy to move the 26kg unit.

The front and rear panels plus some internal parts of the SRS-XV900 are made from recycled plastic in at least some production runs.

The $1,299 SRS-XV900 will be available from mid October 2022.
