Pepcom (CES 2022) VIDEO: The 'smartest self-cleaning litter box' launches with 2nd-gen Leo's Loo Too

I've seen various smart litter boxes advertised on crownfunding sites over the years, but this is the first one I've seen in action, and with the Wi-Fi enabled, health monitoring app-controlled smarts that work with Alexa and Google voice controls, Leo's Loo Too looks great for humans and cats, young and old, while elegantly solving an age old problem.

If you own a cat, you most likely have a cat litter tray that needs cleaning - unless, that is, you have trained your cat to use the toilet - and maybe even to flush it, too.

Given the presumed rarity of such cats, kitty litter boxes are the norm, and they need cleaning, which, no matter how much you love your cat or cats, is nobody's idea of fun.

So, given that we live in the most technologically advanced times of modern recorded history, it's no surprise that a range of automatic cat litter boxes have been on the market for the last couple of decades, with a "rake design" automatic litter box first patented in 1991.

Existing automatic, self-cleaning, app-connected litter boxes have been the subject of various crowdfunding campaigns, but the Leo's Loo Too is a new, 2nd-gen model from Smarty Pear, which offers a range of useful features and benefits that I don't see other models offering.

You can see a "2022 list" of six competing models from Good Housekeeping or this list of seven competing models from The Spruce Pets in 2021 to compare Smarty Pear's new model with for yourself.

Smarty Pear's new features include UV-C sanitisation, weight and activity data logged in the accompanying app, Google and Alexa control, "whisper-quiet" sifting technology and more, which make the 2nd-gen Leo's Loo Too the cat's meow.

So, let's take a look at my video interview with Rachel Tviet, the Social Media and Community Manager at Smarty Pear to learn more and to see Leo's Loo Too in action, followed by the company's official YouTube video, after which you'll find more details of the unit.

Here's Smarty Pear's official video:

On sale now for US $599.99 and shipping later this month (January 2022), a close competitor seems to be the Litter Robot 3 Connect for US $549, but it lacks many of the new features Leo's Loo Too offers.

Smarty Pear also offers 25 drawstring-enhanced litter box liner bags for US $14.99 each once off, $13.99 each every three months or $12.99 per month, and while Litter Robot has 50 liner bags for US $32.99, there doesn't appear to be that handy drawstring.

With all of its smarts, it's no surprise to see Smarty Pear brand its unit as "the smartest self-cleaning litter box," featuring a most advanced set of features, including Google and Alexa voice controls, a mobile smart home connected app, triple-layer safety protection with advanced sensors, radar and anti-pinching technology to keep kitty safe, a programmable UV light, odour-control & more.

Naturally, the company says the Leo’s Loo Too is "a massive step forward for cat families looking for a better alternative to traditional litter boxes", with four fun colours comprising of gray, pink, blue and green, a modern design, a 58% larger waste drawer than the original Leo's Loo, and whisper-quiet motor and more.

Designed to use readily available 100% 100% clay-clumping litter only - anything else will void the warranty.

The app lets you remotely monitor and control your Loo from anywhere in the world, letting you access and adjust settings and view activity reports.

You can also say “Alexa” or “Hey Google” to turn your Leo’s Loo Too off or adjust key settings, as it easily integrates with both voice assistant platforms.

The triple layer protection system uses:

  • A state of the art Radar System that forms a protective wall
  • Four Weight Sensors that detect when kitty is inside the drum
  • An aerospace-grade Anti-Pinch Sensor at the top of the waste drawer
  • UV Rays to kill odour and bugs
  • Advanced Odour Control

In addition, we're told "Leo’s Loo Too drawer is about 58% larger than the drawer in Leo’s Loo. With the increase, the Leo’s Loo Too drawer will hold about 1.5 week’s worth of waste."

So, if you're a cat lover, and you're not inclined to teach your cat how to use the toilet, you've never had more options when it comes to automatically self-cleaning litter boxes!
