EFM's iPhone 12 cases: antimicrobial protection, with 5G Signal Plus models offering 'maximum 5G reception'

The race for the perfect smartphone case continues, as each company makes the case that its iPhone 12 case offers the best-case scenario for protection, killing germs, protecting screens and even being better at letting 5G signals arrive with 'performance optimisation'.

The case for a case is a case whose cause I am always happy to take up, because I've seen my share of case-less broken iPhones that could have been protected were its owners on the case of buying a case - any case - even though it's very, very clear that not all cases are created equal, with some cases much better than others.

Cases aren't just useful for just-in-case scenarios where you might drop your phone accidentally, either. Some are made with antimicrobial material that can kill 99.99% of germs, and while this isn't a new feature of some iPhone cases, COVID-19 certainly makes the case for wanting this particular feature, even though you should always ensure you've washed your hands or used hand sanitiser on a regular basis.

So, what are the new cases from EFM, and what is the case they make for you buying them over one of the many and varied competitors out there, which includes Apple itself all the way through to cheap and cheerful cases you can pick up from any corner phone store?

Well, glad you asked, because this is the right article to find out!

Let's start off with the headline info, after which we'll get into more detail. EFM has three new case ranges, and a new screen protection "armour" also.

The range includes Cayman 5G Case ArmourAspen, Zurich and Eco+ Case Armour along with the True Touch (TT) Sapphire+ Screen Armour. Prices and images of the case armour and screen armour are at the end of this article.

The TT Sapphire+ Sreeen Armour is specifically designed to complement the case armour range for what EFM is calling "360° device protection" along wide "globally recognised D3O technology which offers the highest level of defence against damage".

The Cayman and Aspen Case Armour are optimised for 5G, featuring "D3O Signal Plus" technology which has been engineered for an "optimal 5G connection" 5G compatible and is dubbed "the only 5G performance optimised material in the Australian market", thus "meeting the industry's toughest permittivity standard".

Now, these cases are available for the iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12, iPhone12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, and the Cayman, Aspen and Zurich range feature antimicrobial protection, killing 99.99% of germs. EFM notes that phones are known to house a large amount of bacteria, with many sources claiming a mobile phone can carry more than 25,000 bacteria per square inch - which is more than a toilet seat.

Carl Bonham, EFM's CEO said: "This year has been difficult for many… If there is anything we have learnt, it’s that good health and hygiene is very important.

“We know people use their phones multiple times a day so we wanted to create something for our customers that assists them with the common hygiene task of cleaning their phone, giving them some peace of mind when interacting with their device as often as they do.

“The innovative cases have antimicrobial properties built into the ultra-flexible, lightweight material that reacts with moisture to create an environment that bacteria can no longer live in, leaving your device with a lot less germs for you to clean.”

Then there's the new EFM Case Armour cases which feature what is claimed as "world-leading D3O with 5G Signal Plus Technology – the first and only 5G performance optimised material in the Australian market".

We're told that "D3O with 5G Signal Plus is a protective, low-permittivity material with micro voids that allows the 5G signal to pass through to the device, which has been proven to reduce signal loss by up to 37 per cent compared to other protective case materials in the market. EFM is the exclusive partner to D3O nationally.

"To ensure only the best protection for its customers with the iPhone 12 innovative screen design, EFM has completed the launch with Screen Armour that kills up to 99.99% of germs on device screens.

"The True Touch (TT) Sapphire+ Antimicrobial product offers 360-degree device protection to customers with an integrated ion-exchange antimicrobial that starts killing germs instantly. Through its double sapphire coated layer, the case offers a 9H Hardness rating in the industry ranking out of 10, making it highly scratch-resistant".

The new range of EFM products will be available in-store at JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, licensed Telstra stores and Optus outlets, PTC, HappyTel and other leading independent mobile phone stores and online at with free delivery - details, prices and images of the cases and the new screen protector are below, read on!

What's a bit more detail of the D3O technology? There's a video below, too - check it out!

EFM explains that it has an exclusive partnership with D3O, makers of military, industrial, sports and motorcycle protection. D3O’s unique patented materials, based on non-Newtonian principles, are soft and flexible in a relaxed state, but harden upon impact to dissipate impact energy and reduce transmitted force.

Supported by D3O with 5G Signal Plus Technology

The D3O material is incorporated with 5G Signal Plus Technology allows for stronger signals to pass through the case armour. This gives users clear audio and video call quality, faster download speeds and longer battery life, while providing best-in-class impact protection.

EFM also has a range of compatible wall charges, which is important because the iPhone 12 range is the first to no longer include a power adapter with purchased device.

EFM says users can "choose to power their device with the EFM 30W Dual Port Wall Charger or the 60W Dual Port Wall Charger. Both products give users a faster, more efficient charge to their device and the option to power multiple devices via two USB ports".

Here's an official EFM video that explains more about the D3O with 5G Signal Plus Technology:
