Construction of the Japan-Guam-Australia Cable System has officially commenced, with the 9500-kilometre fibre optic undersea cable designed to deliver a capacity of more than 36 terabits per second (Tbps).

Global ICT solutions and services company NEC has secured a 12-month contract to deliver proof-of-concept of a software-defined wide-area network as a fully managed service for the New South Wales Department of Finance, Services & Innovation.

Japan's NEC Corporation and the Southeast Asia-Japan 2 consortium (SJC2) have signed an agreement for the former to build a high-performance submarine cable connecting Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Taiwan, mainland China, Korea and Japan.
