The Australian Communications Consumer Action Network says telcos do well out of the telecommunications industry, and need to step up and resolve complaints about third-party charges themselves, not send their customers off to third-party providers for resolution.

Telstra has agreed to pay a penalty over the management of its Premium Direct Billing service after the competition watchdog alleged that the telco made false or misleading representations to consumers over the third-party service.

Telecommunications retail service provider Australian Private Networks — trading as Activ8me —  has paid a penalty of $12,600 after the competition watchdog, the ACCC issued an infringement notice for alleged false and misleading representations.
