If you want to share your Windows Phone’s screen and mirror it on a big-screen TV, Microsoft’s own HD-10 Wireless Display Adapter is the way to do it.
Retailing for $99, it looks a bit like a smaller and circular version of the Apple TV, while also coming with a portable NFC connection disc for easy connection.
The HD-10 mirrors your Lumia screen in real time, whether it’s the home screen, apps, media and more.
I just received an email from Microsoft notifying me that the HD-10 Wireless Display Adapter is now being given away in Australia with each purchase of a Lumia 830 through Telstra.
It’s clearly an attempt to sweeten the deal for new Lumia 830 buyers, with Telstra making the offer available until 27 January 2015, with the caveat ‘unless withdrawn earlier by Telstra’.
Presumably this is in case the deal is too popular, but I personally don’t foresee hordes of people clamouring for a Lumia 830 all of a sudden just because Microsoft and Telstra are throwing in a free screen mirroring adapter.
And, while Microsoft is promising new flagship Windows 10 phones to come later this year, it’s worth noting that Microsoft also promises its Windows Phone 8.1 range will be upgradable to Windows 10, which will also come with a new and vastly more powerful set of fully-touch enabled Office apps - Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
That said, the current Lumia 830 is still a powerful phone, with 5-inch display featuring enhanced outdoor readability, a 10 Megapixel PureView camera with Dolby Surround Sound recording, SD card memory expandability and plenty more.
So, if you’ve been sitting on the fence and want something to push you off it into the land of Lumia on the Telstra network, Microsoft clearly hopes this new time-limited giveaway might well do the trick.
