Telecommunications carrier Vertel, a leader in premium next generation wireless networks, today announced its official membership to the MEF (Metro Ethernet Forum), continuing its rise in the field of Carrier Ethernet Services. Vertel joins Australia's top 6 Service Providers affiliated to this progressive coalition whose members include NBN Co., Verizon and AT&T.
MEF is an alliance of the world's largest Ethernet equipment manufacturers and network operators. Its mission is to accelerate the worldwide adoption of Carrier-class Ethernet networks and services that have high demands relative to Quality of Service (QoS), scalability, SLAs and capacity. Celebrating its 10th anniversary the MEF is forecasting exceptional growth with the market expected to exceed $47bn by 2015.

With over 800 customers and 182 POP's nationally the network upgrade has been a significant investment by Vertel. One of the first orgnaisations to benefit from this major infrastructure project was SWARH (South West Alliance of Rural Health) and the regional alliance of 29 Hospitals and Medical centres situated in South West Victoria.
With the roll-out of the National Broadband Network (NBN) and explosive demand for bandwidth, mission critical networks, cloud computing, and Ethernet mobile backhaul Vertel is looking forward to taking advantage of the MEF reputation by continuing to take a leading role in the expansion of next generation networks in Australia.
