Local Backup Wholesalers Taking on the Big-Boys

After spending five years as an Offsite Backup retailer targeted toward SME's, Corporate Backup recently ticked off its first year as a wholesale-only Offsite Backup Provider. Managing Director of Corporate Backup Kevin Allan says 'The key has been to share our knowledge and help IT vendors everywhere we can'.

This success has allowed for some huge expansion. 'We have grown very quickly in 2011 and this has allowed us to upgrade our servers, take on 6 new staff and even build our own data centre in the CBD. Prospective Clients can tell we're a company that's going places and they want to be a part of it.'

Gavin Byfield from Local IT has had great success with his own backup service. 'We have been using Corporate Backup since the start of the year and it is huge increase to my bottom line. It's an easy sell to my clients and so far generated revenue in excess of $20,000. For a small business like mine this is a huge return on investment.'

It's not only small businesses that can benefit from partnering with a wholesale offsite backup provider. Geoff runs an IT Company with over 40 staff. 'With the Corporate Backup white label offering being so transparent we push it as our own product on our own system and our clients don't know the difference. If we ever have any backup-related issues we call or email Support and generally hear back within minutes. We went down the route of deploying our own servers for offsite backup but just couldn't get the system working properly. With Corporate Backup managing the backend, we have not had to deploy any of our own servers or take on more staff. It has saved us a huge amount of time, money and work.

Behind the success, the Corporate Backup team have faced some challenges. 'A by-product of our transparency is difficulty in marketing our services to a wider audience' said Allan. 'IT companies treat the software as part of their intellectual property and as such, are not in a position to pass on referrals'.

2012 looks very bright, with the next generation of the software just weeks away. 'Advanced exchange, SQL and File handling coupled with plug-ins for virtual environments make the software extremely appealing to the Australian market' said Allan, 'and Integrated reporting makes life that much easier for day to day monitoring of backups'.

We believe we are Australia's only wholesaler of the service, based on our own research and that of our clients. The goal is to provide a complete end-to-end solution run entirely on Australian soil that is cost effective, powerful, and with no need for IT companies to invest in their own hardware.

There are a lot of businesses offering 'backup as a service', and we've seen a large number come and go. We've identified what works and what doesn't, especially when it comes to building a sustainable business for us, and our partners.
