Ok, so maybe Catch Connect operating on the Optus 4G network rather than the Telstra network could be considered a catch by some, but with Optus unquestionably the number two telco, Optus is definitely a great network to be on.
Catch Connect is also aiming at the value end of the market, rather than the premium user who is prepared to spend much more on their monthly phone plans, and with its newest plans, Catch Connect is definitely taking the fight right up to Amaysim and Kogan Mobile, both of which have also offered great value plans for their customers over the years.
Still, Catch Connect now beats them both at these price points. Amaysim wants $12 for unlimited calls and text over 28 days with 2GB of data, while Kogan wants $16.90 per 30 days for 3GB of data.
Amaysim does have an upfront deal where the $12 plan is $6 for the first recharge, and Kogan has great deals on its 90 and 365 day plans, but not everyone wants to sign up for those lengths of time.
Catch Connect's 90 day plan beats Kogan Mobile's quite handily, too - where Kogan Mobile wants $46.90 for 90 days with a total of 9GB of data, Catch Connect wants $29 for the same 90 day period and is giving 20GB of data.
It seems likely that Amaysim, Kogan and others in the industry will have to respond at some point, but it's quite normal for competition and prices to change throughout the year, and 2021 will be no different.
Also Catch Connect has a range of other prepaid plans, these are just its newest plans designed to catch your attention as much as possible.
So, what does Catch itself have to say about its new plans?
Well, Catch quptes from a Jan 2021 Property Media report which states that "Australians are spending nearly 40 hours per week online", and notes this is "about the same time many people spend at work".
Ryan Gracie, CMO of Catch.com.au: “Over the past 12 months, we have seen the needs of Australians shift tremendously, as they adapted from in-office working to remote working and back to semi-remote working set ups. As situations continue to change, we recognise the importance of flexibility, value and consistency when choosing a mobile plan. We’re excited to offer the newest prepaid plans at famous Catch.com.au prices.”
We're reminded that "all Catch Connect plans include unlimited standard national talk and text to Australian mobiles and landlines, 1300 numbers and voicemail retrieval", and that the "new plans provide the option to add extras or switch plans whenever needed", offering "consistent value for 30 and 90 day periods". Also, as with Kogan Mobile, Catch Connect "offers 365 day plans for a longer-term option providing more flexibility for customers", with the plans able to be purchased from the Catch Connect website here.
