The providers — AT&T, BT, Orange, Singtel, and Vodafone — have been identified by industry analyst firm IDC as leaders for their diverse portfolios of services in areas such as Internet of Things and collaboration in the region.
Australia's largest telco — Telstra — has been identified in a group of what the analyst firm describes as "major players" in Asia Pacific, which also includes regional service providers, such as NTT Coms, and GCX along with global service providers like Verizon and Tata Communications.
"Communication service providers operating in Asia/Pacific are seeking to become the ICT partner of choice for enterprises looking for rapid growth in their respective countries and regionally. These enterprises are embracing 3rd Platform technologies and pushing efforts to digitally transform their businesses,” said Nikhil Batra, senior research manager for Telecoms Practice at IDC Asia/Pacific.
"CSPs are attempting to go ‘digital’ themselves as they transform their networks to incorporate software-defined and virtualisation paradigms, investing heavily in analytics, automation, and other emerging technologies that will transform not just their network architectures but ultimately, their business.”
Some of the key differentiators identified by IDC for success in the APAC telecoms services market include:
- A comprehensive portfolio of software-defined networking (SDN) and virtual network services;
- Treating networks as a strategic asset and a differentiator;
- Acting as a strategic partner for enterprise customers; and
- A well-rounded managed security services portfolio.
