Home Telecoms & NBN OVO's special half-off on all mobile deals for 3 months

OVO Mobile is offering special deals to attract customers to its plans, including a dedicated range of data-free sport, entertainment and radio, with half-off for the first three months.

"Calling on fans of sport and entertainment to switch" to OVO is, of course, OVO Mobile, doing the kind of special deal we've become used to seeing with various telcos of late, as competition to offer ever better deals to customers heats up.

The deal applies to "new sign-ups" at OVO's website "from today through to the end of May 2018", with "all OVO mobile pre-paid plans now half-price for the first 90 days".

We're told that "this includes OVO's 19GB mobile plan, which has dropped to $24.98 per 30 days, right through to the Mini plan designed for tweens and teens offering 1GB data and unlimited texts − now $4.98 per 30 days".

For those unaware of OVO's "Fans First promise," it "includes offering unique sport and entertainment content streaming data-free to OVO mobile customers", while also pledging that "any extra data allowances that become available on OVO plans will be automatically passed on to fans, making OVO a great long term bet in this very competitive mobile market".

OVO chief executive Matt Jones said: "This promotion is about us giving some extra encouragement to fans of our content to take the next step and sign up for a mobile plan. We've recently passed the 100,000-hour threshold of unique video content available on our platforms, and we'd love our fans to be able to watch as much of it as they like without burning a single meg of mobile data.

"If you're not on a pre-paid mobile phone plan in this country, you're cheating yourself. Your current mobile phone contract should be the last one you ever sign. With the industry changing so quickly, and larger mobile data plans and prices dropping so frequently, anyone who wants to spend less for more on their mobile phone plans needs to switch to prepaid as quickly as they can."

Again, for those unaware of OVO's content, accessible data-free to OVO customers but available for anyone to watch via any smartphone, tablet or computer, OVOPlay is "home to unique content offering Australian gymnastics, water polo, drag racing and a variety of other sports".

Excitingly for fans of eSports, OVO's most recent addition to its impressive stable of content is the Australian University League, a new esports competition, which appeals to more than 1.5 million Australian online esports viewers each month.

OVOPlay is also home to streamed radio from Triple M and HIT FM stations across the country and recently won another award for "Best Plans in Entertainment".

In addition, OVO announced a 150GB data-only SIM plan for $89.95, and in the article covering that announcement, you will find a video interview I conducted with Jones with plenty of great information on the company, its philosophy, its plans, pricing, content future and plenty more.

Finally, it's important to note that OVO's half-price offer for the first three months is "available on new pre-paid mobile services only, including new services purchased by existing OVO customers". This means the half-price deal doesn't apply to existing mobile services, and doesn't apply to the data-SIM only plans.

The deal is an online offer only via OVO's website and we're told that "customers must sign up before 31 May and stay on auto recharge for 90 days. After the first three months, customers on these mobile plans will revert to standard pricing".
