Even as unemployment in the wider economy grows, Australia will face critical ICT skills shortages as soon as next year, with the public sector expected to be worst hit, according to research group Intermedium.

The bottom in ICT employment has been reached and demand for skilled jobs is once again on the rise, according to the latest market survey from a major technology recruiter. The news adds to a growing list of evidence of a return to health of the ICT jobs scene.

The boss of one of Australia's largest ICT recruiters says the much delayed National Broadband Network could provide hundreds of desperately needed ICT jobs. ICT project managers are being let go by the hundreds across Australia and recruiters are looking to the Telecoms sector to keep the market afloat with projects like the NBN.
