Google has fired off a double barrelled antitrust-like complaint to both the US Justice Deoartment and the European Commission (EC) over Microsoft making MSN Search the default search engine in the new version of its dominant Internet Explorer browser, IE7. Internet Explorer currently has 85% market share, a share that is slowly being eroded by Mozilla Firefox and, to a lesser extent Opera from Opera Software.

In what is shaping up to be a battle between the US IT and telco giants, the owners of the networks that carry internet traffic have won a first round victory over the large internet providers. The battle is all about who controls the content flow over the networks.

Store Wars 5: The Empire strikes back!

Deep in the heart of Washington State, half a world away, 147 miles from Seattle, lies a little farming community of about 5000 called Quincy. One thing the surrounding region apparently is not short of is land, cheap power and fat communications pipes. So it is quite understandable to hear that the evil empire Microsoft has chosen this region, not too distant from its home base, as a beach head for its counter-offensive against the rebellious insurgent Google.
