In a filing made in a California court, and reported by Axios, Qualcomm said, “it is now apparent Apple engaged in a years-long campaign of false promises, stealth and subterfuge designed to steal Qualcomm's confidential information and trade secrets for the purpose of improving the performance of lower-quality modem chipsets, with the ultimate goal of eliminating Qualcomm's Apple-based business.”
The two companies have been fighting each other in court for some time now, with the iPhone-maker now said to have moved away to using Intel chips.
From 2011 to 2016, Apple used only Qualcomm chips; it then started using a mix from both Intel and Qualcomm.
But, Qualcomm alleges, Apple used the knowledge it gained to advise Intel how to improve its chips.
The filing was made in a bid to change the breach of contract suit it has against Apple.
Apple and Qualcomm have been on the warpath since January last year when Apple filed a suit against Qualcomm in the US, followed by two cases in China the same month. Two months later it filed a case in the UK.
