Kounta readies for assault on US market with new appointment

Australian cloud Point-of-Sale company Kounta has hired a 14-year IT industry veteran to lead the company in the United States as it gears up for a launch into the American market next year.

Kounta founder and CEO, Nick Cloete, announced the appointment as USA President of Jason Seed, who he said had 14 years of experience as a 'growth stage" CEO of four technology companies, “all with a focus on the US market”.

Cloete said Seed had prior success launching Australian PoS company Shortcuts Software, internationally, and as CEO from 2000-2006 grew the company from five staff to 90 with direct operations in the UK and USA, with sales into a further 25 countries.

Cloete said Seed, who is based in Palo Alto, will be responsible for “inking strategic partnerships and ramping up awareness for Kounta’s launch into the US market in 2015”.

“The US is a big challenge for any startup, but the market opportunity is equally large. Jason brings a wealth of experience and skill which will help us launch and grow in the US market, and I’m thrilled to have him on the team,” Cloete said.

According to Cloete, Kounta has enjoyed tremendous growth in 2014 including introducing a host of new features, signing high profile integration partnerships and partnering with accounting giant MYOB (a Bain Capital Company) to launch an integrated online accounting and POS solution.

Seed said he was looking forward to the challenge of showing millions of businesses around America the benefits of cloud point of sale.

“I’ve been following Kounta closely since launch, and what they’ve managed to achieve in Australia and New Zealand in such a short span of time, has me genuinely excited about challenging the status quo the US.

“The sheer volume of businesses in the US that are operating on archaic, clunky, expensive hardware is staggering.

“With a host of changes happening in the industry, like Apple Pay and Chip & PIN introduction in the US, it’s important for merchants to have a flexible solution that can integrate with everything in the market.

“Rather than using a device that locks you into one system and takes a clipping off each transaction, running a business on Kounta with a small flat fee puts the power back in the hands of merchants.”

Seed said Kounta runs on an iPad, or any web enabled device, and its API makes it an “attractive solution for businesses that are looking for a powerful, flexible cloud based solution capable of doing much more than the basic order entry and payment processing”.  

“With Kounta’s add-ons, the iPad is turned into a powerful device that handles rostering, time clocks, inventory management, product/menu management, reporting and analytics.”
