MediaHub needed a comprehensive upgrade to its existing 10G DWDM fibre optic transport network to a 200G high-speed network, to support growing broadcast and streaming requirements.
The biggest challenge was to support the three most important factors, which are a must in broadcast networks:
1. Low latency - so that there are no delays in broadcast
2. Resilience – so there are no breaks in transmission
3. Support of a mix of services of broadcast (native, TSoIP) and data (Ethernet) - so that the network is flexible to different broadcast and data applications.
Leveraging several of PacketLight’s carrier-grade DWDM fibre optic network solutions (PL‑2000M 200G muxponder, PL-2000 20G Muxponder, and the PL-1000RO ROADM), facilitated MediaHub’s network expansion to a 200G DWDM OTN next-generation network by multiplexing additional 200G wavelengths. These wavelengths support any mix of services (Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and video), and in case it is required in the future, optional Layer-1 optical encryption with full throughput and traffic transparency (read more about optical encryption here).
This also expanded the network into mesh topology, connecting additional sites and data centres over DWDM ROADM infrastructure. This has enabled MediaHub to expand its traditional broadcast services, extend their data centre interconnect offering, and remain a leader in its respective markets.
