Pyrios’ ICT charity lunch advances digital birth registration in developing countries

Melbourne, 10 October 2017 – More than 80 ICT professionals attended Pyrios’ networking and charity Grand Lunch @ the Grand Hyatt, Melbourne, last week to support global charity Plan International’s push for digital birth certification in developing countries.

Tane Hookham, Donor Contact Manager, Plan International Australia, outlined the charity’s Count Every Child initiative involving governments, UN agencies, and the private sector in a technology programme to improve birth registration services for the more 230 million children worldwide without a birth certificate.

With the AFL Grand Final looming large on the weekend horizon, attendees also heard from AFL Women’s League player, Alicia Eva, recently drafted to the Greater Western Sydney Giants.

And from the sporting fringes, writer and sports commentator Mick Colliss raised a laugh with a tale about his vice-captaincy of Australia’s first Sudoku Team, which competed in the International Sudoku Championships (2008), in India.

The Pyrios Grand Lunch raised $31,000 for Plan International, being the combined proceeds of the lunch attendees, donations taken on the day and Government co-contribution for corporate donations.

Visit The Grand Lunch to see photos and more details of the day.
