NASA confirms dates of last 2 shuttle flights

NASA announced on July 1, 2010, that it has confirmed the launch dates of STS-133 and STS-134. The space shuttle program is officially active through the end of February 2011.

According to the NASA media release NASA Updates Shuttle Target Launch Dates For Final Two Flights, NASA is "targeting approximately 4:33 p.m. EDT on Nov. 1 for the launch of space shuttle Discovery's STS-133 mission and 4:19 p.m. EST on Feb. 26, 2011, for the liftoff of shuttle Endeavour's STS-134 flight from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.'

NASA stated that the later dates were necessitated because of ''¦ critical payload hardware for STS-133 will not be ready in time to support the previously planned Sept. 16 launch.'

Consequently, with the November 2010 move for space shuttle Discovery, the STS-134 flight of space shuttle Endeavour was postponed to February 2011.

As always, 'NASA will schedule the official launch date for each mission following the agency's Flight Readiness Reviews, which typically occur about two weeks prior to launches.'

And, of course, 'All target launch dates are subject to change.'

Page two concludes with additional information for the final two flights of the U.S. Space Transportation System (STS), commonly called the NASA Space Shuttle Program.

For additional information on STS-133, please go to STS-133 Mission Information.

The STS-133 crew members consist of commander Steven Lindsey, pilot Eric Boe and mission specialists Alvin Drew, Michael Barratt, Tim Kopra, and Nicole Stott.

And, for more data on STS-134, go to STS-134 Mission Information.

The STS-134 crew members will be commander Mark Kelly, pilot Gregory H. Johnson and mission specialists Michael Fincke, Greg Chamitoff, Andrew Feustel, and European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Roberto Vittori.
