The redirect occurs both when using the unencrypted and encrypted URLs for Hanson's website.
A domain name expert told iTWire that the redirect was a 301, meaning that it was permanent and the most mischievous type of redirect to implement.
The expert, who wished to remain anonymous, said the timestamp on the DNS record was 14 January.
A connection to the Hanson site shows that it resolves to the RCA website.
Hanson is known not to be overly sympathetic towards refugees.
The IP for the site resolves to 220.127.116.11 which is owned by Synergy Wholesale, a company that is located in Narre Warren, a suburb of Melbourne.
Unexpected end-point: the Refugee Council of Australia website.
Anyone who visits the site while it is in this state, will be sent to the RCA site even after the issue is fixed.
One would have to clear one's browser cache in order to avoid this happening after a fix is in place.
