The Ozdocs/Talman group, which has been the software supplier to the industry in both Australia and New Zealand since 1976, said through its chief executive, Dr Pramod Pandey, that work to restore the sales database had been going on since Wednesday.
Talman has no information on its website about the attack. Dr Pandey told the Sheep Central website that new infrastructure would be used for the rebuilt database.
“We are creating a new infrastructure altogether with the assistance of our friends such as AWEX," he was quoted as saying.
Dr Pandey said the attack had not been reported to the police and that Talman's insurer would deal with that aspect of things.
The Australian Wool Exchange will be unable to hold any sales until Monday.
David Cother, secretary of the National Auction Selling Committee, told the Farm Online website that Talman had advised that this week's sales be cancelled.
Electronic catalogues would not be available until the system was in place again. Software is used for collating test data, cataloguing and valuations.
