Australian customer experience firm Stellar, that also operates across Asia, North America and Africa, appears to have taken a hit from a group of attackers using the NetWalker ransomware that works on Windows systems.

Screenshots of data exfiltrated from the company have been posted on the dark web and, according to a countdown timer placed on the site, Stellar has a little more than six days to respond to the attackers' ransom demand.

Of itself, Stellar says on its website: "We design and deploy solutions anchored around the delivery of exceptional customer experiences through our Customer Management, Consulting and Intelligent Automation businesses.

"For over 20 years, we have designed solutions that respond to the changing needs and expectations voiced by customers and employees alike."

NetWalker follows what is becoming an increasing tactic among ransomware: it is designed to first exfiltrate data from a victim's system to a server specified by the attackers. After that, the data on the victim's system is encrypted and a ransom note generated.

Then the attackers put pressure on the victim, by releasing the data in small amounts to exert pressure and get their ransom. If this tactic fails, all the data is leaked and also posted to hacker forums on the dark web.

The screenshots of Stellar data posted by the NetWalker gang appears to mainly of financial records.

Stellar has no media contact or email for making contact. Given that, iTWire has contacted the company for comment using the only general email address on its site.
