QuickTime 7.7.4 for Windows addresses 12 serious security issues involving a variety of media types.
The issues addressed by the update concern situations where maliciously crafted files may cause arbitrary code execution or a crash.
Affected file types include TeXML, movies (H.263, H.264, Sorenson), MP3, JPEG, QTIF and FPX.
All but one of the issues were reported through HP's Zero Day Initiative that pays security researchers for vulnerabilities, builds protection into the company's security products, and responsibly discloses the issue to the affected vendor and to other security vendors.
