Review – Tenda TEF1105P-4-63W desktop PoE switch

By

Tenda’s newest desktop PoE switch TEF1105P-4-63W brings four Power over Ethernet (PoE) ports to connect your cameras and VoIP handsets as easily as your desktop PC.

Tenda is a global brand, launched in China in 1999, applying its own research and development to deliver smart, quality network products. The company expanded to Australia in time for Christmas 2018, releasing mesh Wi-Fi systems.

Tenda has now turned its sights from Wi-Fi to fixed Ethernet with the TEF1105P five port / four-port PoE desktop switch.

Not all devices work via Wi-Fi, or you may want the higher reliability of a fixed Ethernet connection. Chances are, your ISP-supplied router comes with a single Ethernet socket or four at best.

Or, perhaps you’ve used Tenda’s PH3 AV1000 Gigabit Powerline Adapter Kit to bring an Ethernet connection through the power cabling into a distant room but you wish to bring more than one device online.

Here’s where a desktop switch comes in, for your computers and game consoles and smart TVs and printers and many other things.

The Tenda TEF1105P makes an excellent desktop switch, providing reliable 10/100Mbs networking over five ports.

It then goes a step beyond, with four of the five ports providing IEEE 802.3af/at PoE. This means any device which supports the PoE standard — like VoIP handsets — can draw power over the Ethernet cable and you don’t even need a power outlet or power cable for them – you quite literally use just a single network cable for both power and data.

In case your devices such as IP cameras are installed outdoor, the POE switch provides professional 6KV lightning protection on Ethernet ports and power supply.

Installation is almost non-existent; plug the switch into electricity and a network connection into the fifth uplink port, before simply plugging in any device you want to be networked, just as if you were plugging it directly into your router.

iTWire found the switch smart looking, silent, effortless to install, entirely transparent to use, and definitely with a very tiny footprint. It performed excellently while we moved large files, streamed music and video and transacted against databases.

Tenda’s product range is available for sale through its partners. More information can be found on the Tenda Australia website.
