The Withings ScanWatch is the health tracking smartwatch that tracks all day, all night

By

French health wearable manufacturer Withings has released its own smartwatch to scan your vital parameters every second - all day, all night, with 30 days battery life.

Withings is dedicated to providing clinically validated and digitally connected health monitoring hardware that not only functions well but looks good too.

Previously, iTWire tested Withing’s Sleep Analyser and found it provided remarkable insights and detailed metrics with very low setup effort required, and then no ongoing work except to, well, go to sleep.

iTWire has now seen the ScanWatch too, and it is, as you might expect, a wristwatch, but it does more than tell the time. It is clinically validated for medical accuracy and tracks heart rate, irregular or high or low heartbeats, breathing disturbances, electrocardiogram, oxygen saturation, steps walked, distance walked, metabolic calories and total calories expenditure, automatically detected running duration and distance, automatically detected swimming duration and calories burned, sleep interruptions, deep and light sleep phases, and elevation both in metres and floors.

There's a lot there going on, and the ScanWatch is checking you out every second. You don’t need a second smartwatch because the ScanWatch will also show you customised call, text, calendar and app notifications.

However, you might ask why the ScanWatch should be your watch of choice, given the existence of smartwatches from well-known phone manufacturers already on the market. The big difference here is the Withings ScanWatch is clinically validated and carries an astounding 30 days battery life. Unlike others, you can genuinely experience day and night 24x7 health monitoring, for a month at a time between recharges.

As our Doctors tell us, one of the best things we can do for our health is to have a proper night's sleep. Without needing to worry about charging your smartwatch overnight, you can use the ScanWatch to provide a sleep score based on your sleep duration, regularity, and other items. It'll also help you wake up at the best time using a silent vibrating alarm that fires at the most optimal point in your sleep cycle.

You don't get wallpapers, podcasts, a voice assistant, and various other niceties, but if you have a need to seriously track your health - or that of your loved one - these are compromises you can afford, to get that incredible continuous day and night monitoring. It also looks pretty darn good as it is, with a stylish, high quality and professional design.

The watch syncs via Bluetooth to the free Withings Health Mate app, available for both iOS and Android. The app writes to Apple Health and Google Fit.

The Withings ScanWatch specifications, in more detail, are:

  • Irregular beat detection: By recording heart rate periodically at the best time, ScanWatch sends a notification when an irregular heartbeat is detected.
  • Breathing disturbances detection: When activated, the Respiratory Scan can detect breathing disturbances via blood oxygen saturation levels, heart rate, breathing frequency and movement.
  • On-demand ECG: Medical-grade electrocardiogram in 30 seconds. Immediate results will be shown on the watch screen and can be relayed in the app for a more in-depth diagnostic report.
  • Recreational oxygen saturation: Provides on-demand oxygen saturation level (SpO2) in just 30 seconds.
  • Heart rate tracking: Track heart rate continuously during workouts to optimise training, and monitor daily and overnight heart rate to help improve health over time.
  • Advanced sleep tracking: Wake to a full report with heart health tracking, a Sleep Score based on sleep cycles, sleep duration and wake-ups. Set a silent vibrating alarm and take advantage of Smart Wake-Up.
  • 24/7 Activity tracking: Automatically tracks walk, biking, run, swim, sleep, distance, elevation (floor climbed) & calories burned.
  • Digital screen: PMOLED screen provides customised call, text, calendar and app notifications plus daily stats (steps, distance and heart rate) by rotating the digital crown.
  • Long battery life: Up to 30 days on a single charge plus 20 more days in power reserve mode (time and activity tracking only).

You can buy the Withings ScanWatch for an RRP of $479 from JB Hi-Fi and Amazon.
