The future is here: Lavazza and Amazon present Voicy - the smartest coffee machine ever

"Alexa, make me a coffee" - it's no longer the stuff of science fiction. With Lavazza and Amazon’s partnership, you can now genuinely have a voice-controlled smart assistant brewing you a tasty caffeinated beverage. It’s the first coffee machine with Alexa built-in, or “la prima macchina da caffé con Alexa integrate” as the Italians might say.

iTWire has been impressed with the great tech - not to mention awesome flavours - of the Lavazza A Modo Mio range in the past, but this is a coffee machine on another level with a genuine Amazon Alexa device integrated right into it. It’s not an add-on or afterthought or gimmick; it’s literally part of the machine, and it will tell you the news, play music, set alarms … and, importantly, it will make you a coffee.

Tell Alexa to make a coffee, and even personalise your coffees with just the precise dosage and temperature you like. Give that combination a name and from then on you can ask Alexa to “make David’s coffee,” or whatever you wish to call it. Go further and tie it to a time or action. Have a coffee waiting for you at 7:30 am each day or link it to your alarm so it starts toasting and grinding a blend to top barista standards for espresso as good as from the best cafes.

The app will also help you be the perfect host by saving your friend and family's preferences too, monitor your coffee consumption, and get tips and guidance on how to clean your machine.

You can do anything else you expect from an Alexa-controlled device such as control your other home devices such as lighting or heating and cooling, play Spotify, run Alexa routines, add items to your shopping list, and anything else you can do from an Echo device. To sweeten the deal registering the Voicy nets you a three-month free trial for Amazon Music Unlimited.

See the touch controls here - including coffee options, plus mute, an Alexa button, and volume up and down. Also, note the blue Alexa ring and speaker grille.

An accompanying smartphone app, Piacere Lavazza, allows you to create your personalised coffee constructions, order new capsules, connect your playlists, and do more, all to make your morning simpler. Or daytime. Or nighttime. Why not partake whenever the fancy takes you?

The Voicy uses Lavazza A Modo Mio coffee capsules that provide high-quality coffee blends and aromas in vacuum-packed single-use capsules, containing up to 7.5g of ground coffee with freshness and quality maintained.

“Aussies love their morning coffee, and with the launch of the Lavazza Voicy, we’re excited to help make this at-home ritual easier and more delightful with Alexa,” said Amazon head of Alexa Product and experience ANZ Kate Gooden. “Bringing Alexa’s smart features to the morning coffee routine has been one of our most requested features from customers. Now thanks to Lavazza, Aussie customers can start their day with premium Italian espresso, by simply asking Alexa.”

Lavazza marketing director APAC Mimmo Orlando said, “Coffee consumers have been enjoying A modo Mio for a long time now. Voicy takes it a step further, allowing consumers to enjoy great coffee whilst also having the power of Amazon Alexa. Making this technology accessible to our at-home coffee drinker, Voicy expands how we think about at-home coffee preparation and recognises the changing needs of our customers.”

If you want great-tasting coffee, and you want to augment your home control with a unit that’s most definitely going to be a hit with your spouse or partner, the Voicy is a must. Keep a pod in the unit and it’s always ready for you. Feeling braindead from a constant barrage of work-from-home Teams meetings? Tell Alexa to make you a coffee and have it ready when you walk out to your kitchen.

iTWire's been enjoying it; play music, check the news and weather, and make coffee. What could be better?

The Voicy is available on Amazon and Lavazza's online store for a recommended retail price of $349, but to mark the collaboration it launches on Amazon Prime Day - 12 July 2022 - for an introductory price of $279. It is 30cm x 15cm x 38cm, includes a 1.1L water tank, holds a maximum of 10 used capsules, has a cup holder grid with two heights, and the removable parts are dishwasher safe.
