The 1MORE ColorBuds 2 - tiny earbuds, big sound

By

While you might not know of 1MORE, this stylish electronic audio company headquartered in San Diego and Shenzhen may well have the perfect earbuds for you in the attractive and feature-packed 1MORE ColorBuds 2.

There is a lot to say about the 1MORE ColorBuds 2. They are an aesthetically pleasing pair of earbuds that come in three colours - black, white, and light pink, weigh a tiny 4.9g each, have active noise cancellation (ANC), four microphones, a long 24-hour battery life, and are IPX5 water-resistant to handle rain and sweat during your workout.

Yet, this is only the start. The earbuds pack a Qualcomm QCC3040 chipset, Bluetooth 5.2, fast charging, wireless charging, a 55mAh battery on the earbuds and 410mAh on the charging case, and a wireless range of 10 metres. The units support aptx, aptx adaptive, AAC, and SBC.

On the noise-cancelling front, you get ANC with pass-through modes so you can hear the world around you when you need to. Conversely, the quad microphones also handle environmental noise cancellation to take out your background noise when speaking to others. Both you and the people you are speaking with get crisp, clear sound without distraction from the background. And, of course, you can tune out on the bus or train or your walk and enjoy a world of music or audiobooks, the sound enveloping you comfortably.

Additionally, the earbuds allow you to personalise how sound is played to you through SoundID. This is an application test from SonarWorks that measures how well your ears individually perceive sound at different ranges and frequencies and is essentially an audio fingerprint of your ear. The result is audio customised for your specific ears and hearing to give you the best results, no matter how unique your ears might be.

A lot of thought and effort has clearly gone into how these earbuds perform. The company's sound is tuned by its in-house four-time Grammy award-winning sound engineer Luca Bignardi. In fact, the ANC is powered by 1MORE's own proprietary QuietMax technology.

The earbuds fully charge in 70 minutes, and with ANC on this gives six hours of audio and another 12 hours on the go through the include carry and charge case. With ANC off this jumps to eight hours and 24 hours respectively. That's plenty of time to get you through the day and night no matter what you do.

The tiny earbuds weigh in at 4.9g and measure 27mm x 21mm x 20mm, while the case is a mere 34.5g and 60mm x 30mm x 38mm. It's effortless to carry them in your bag or pocket.

Of course, numbers, specs, and features are one thing. It's another to know how they fit and perform. In iTWire's testing, we could enjoy a leisurely stroll down a converted old tramway near my home. It's a four-kilometre walk each way, and while there are a few streets with traffic to get through first it soon becomes a peaceful pathway behind retirement villages and next to agisted horses.

I try to make this walk several times a week, and it was a great opportunity to test the ColorBuds 2 out. They fit comfortably, and no matter if I was playing music, making calls, or listening to podcasts and audiobooks the Bluetooth connection was seamless, the sound was crisp, and most certainly I could block the rest of the world out. The ANC and snug fit combined to form a cocoon of my own enjoyment. At no point did I feel the earbuds were going to fall out, nor that they were tinny.

There is a lot going on with the 1MORE ColorBuds 2, yet it all retails for $US 79 and they are available from 1MORE and from Amazon.
