Recruitment industry continues push for high standards


Recruitment industry standards through training and accreditation and advocacy for its members will continue to be a significant focus for the Information Technology Contract and Recruitment Association (ITCRA) with the re-election of the current board of the association for a further two years.

ITCRA CEO, Julie Mills said the Board had been committed to investing in advocacy and responses to legislative change in 2012, and had “helped ITCRA develop and enhance some strong programs for member companies as well as the broader ICT recruitment and contract market,” and she looked forward to working with the directors next year to “build on the success of this year.

Mills said the re-election of the board of directors for a further two years at the association annual general meeting on Wednesday – with voting by 75 percent of members - indicated that members were happy with the direction of ITCRA and the performance of directors.

The ITCRA board comprises directors Russell MacDonald, RMA IT; Richard Earl, Talent International; Ben Wood, Clicks I.T. Recruitment; Duncan Thomson, Finite Recruitment; Peter Acheson, Peoplebank; Damien Ross, itcom; Linda Trevor, Candle; and Jarrad Skeen, Talent 2.

Russell MacDonald was re-elected as President, Richard Earl as Vice-President, and Ben Wood as Finance Chair.

The ITCRA board has said it will focus on developing resources to support members “as the economic environment continues to impact business.”

Member companies have indicated relatively tough times for the recruitment industry, with Executive General Manager of Candle, Linda Trevor, commenting that the recruitment industry was changing, with companies experiencing “decreasing margins coupled with increasing expectations from clients.”

“We need to ensure that our industry remains vital on the client’s recruitment agenda and that we continue to offer a value-added service,” she said.

And, according to Duncan Thomson, General Manager of The Finite Group, ITCRA‘s Directors need to be closely listening to, and looking at, ways to support Members’ needs “as ICT hiring demand continues to slow.”

On a positive note, ICT contracting is expected to be a growing trend next year, a point reinforced by the CEO of Peoplebank, Peter Acheson, who said that ITCRA, and the recruiting industry more broadly, needed to be “more vocal about the importance of contracting, the bottom line benefits to businesses and why contracting will actually grow in the next 30 years as the preferred form of employment for ICT workers.”

ITCRA’s board has indicated a major challenge for the association is to work with clients, governments and other industry groups to “ensure the benefits of flexible work in the ICT sector are recognised and promoted, while ensuring that policies reflect the benefits of that flexibility.”

The association’s 2012 awards were also presented on Wednesday at a dinner after the AGM:

•    Certified Professional of the Year (award supported by Laura Maddison from Brooklyn Group for achieving the highest result on ITCRA’s certification exam in 2011/12

•    Leadership Professional of the Year (award supported by OAMPS Insurance Brokers): Max Cullen from ASPL Group for commitment to the Leadership Circle program in 2011/12

•    General Member Engagement Award (award supported by ITWire): Ambition for participation across the company in Connect Programs across Australia

•    General Member Engagement Award (award supported by ITWire): Candle for participation across the company in Connect Programs across Australia and New Zealand

•    General Member Standards Award (award supported by Certex International): Mosaic Recruitment for successfully participating in ITCRA’s benchmarks of iDiagnostic and Professional Membership in a multidiscipline company

•    General Member Standards Award (award supported by WorkPro): Peoplebank Australia Ltd for successfully participating in ITCRA’s benchmarks of iDiagnostic and Professional Membership in an ICT specialist company

•    Special Member Commitment Award (award supported by ITSuper and the fund administrator TAL): Alan Chanesman from Lipman James for commitment and contribution to ITCRA as a Special Member
