E310: It's a 3D future for Sony

Sony is looking past its nose into the future of entertainment, and is seeing a 3D generation.  At E3 today the electronics giant unveiled release dates and pricing for the PlayStation Move motion controller as well as software push into the third dimension.  Sony also announced a premium, not free, version of the PlayStation Network.

iTWire had a chance to play with the new motion controller for the PS3 as well as sample some 3D gaming a few weeks back.  Well Sony has used the springboard of an E3 show keynote to further push into the third dimension of entertainment.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has released details on which titles will harness Stereoscopic 3D options.  These include MotorStorm®: Apocalypse, Killzone®3, The Sly Raccoon Collection and Gran Turismo®5.  Popular franchises from the publishing community will also make their way into consumer homes in stereoscopic 3D on PlayStation 3, such as Crysis 2 from Electronic Arts, Mortal Kombat 9 from Warner Brothers, Ubisoft's Shaun White Skateboarding and Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, as well as Tron 2: Evolution The Game from Disney.

According to Sony: Unlike any other console on the market today, all 35.7 million PS3 units globally are capable of playing stereoscopic 3D games as a result of a recent firmware update. Four PS3 titles offering stereoscopic gaming experiences are currently available for download from the layStation Network including PAIN, MotorStorm® Pacific Rift, Super Stardustâ„¢ HD and WipEout® HD. The PS3 system will make stereoscopic 3D Blu-ray Disc movie support available later this year.

If want to start breaking furniture, why not wear a pair of 3D glasses whilst gaming with the PlayStation Move?  Sony announced release details for the new motion controller:

SCEE also announced that it will release the PlayStation®Move motion controller for PS3 on September 15th (September 16th, Australia and New Zealand) in Europe and the PAL territories for €39.99 RRP (AUD$69.99, NZ$79.99). The new PlayStation®Move navigation controller, which can be used alongside the motion controller for intuitive navigation of in-game characters and objects, will also be available on the same day for €29.99 RRP (AUD$49.99, NZ$59.99).  A special priced starter bundle offer will also be made available at launch.
