Anderson joins VMware from IBM, where he spent 15 years in various roles, most recently as ANZ vice president for cloud and cognitive software.
Earlier in his career he worked in business development at Sophos and Kanbay (now part of Capgemini) after starting out as a security professional.
Anderson holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Macquarie University, and is a certified security specialist.
His predecessor, Alister Dias, as moved into the role of vice president, software defined data centre for VMware Asia Pacific and Japan.
"After four years of outstanding leadership in Australia and New Zealand, Alister was the perfect fit to take on this new challenge and grow our regional software defined data centre business," said Hewitt.
"I congratulate Alister on his new role which is critical in helping is build the digital foundation for our customer base across Asia Pacific and Japan."
