Redflow brings in telco exec as new CEO Featured

Australian battery company Redflow has appointed an experienced telecommunications executive, Tim Harris, as its new chief executive, to lead the company through its next stage of growth and commercialisation.

Harris was previously chief commercial officer for New Zealand telecommunications infrastructure provider Chorus and held senior leadership roles at BT Group in Singapore and the UK.

The telecommunications sector is a key market for the ASX-listed Redflow (ASX:RFX).

With Harris’ appointment, Redflow long-term executive Richard Aird returns to the role of chief operating officer focused on development of the ZBM2 battery to ensure its successful production by the company’s new factory in Thailand.

Redflow was founded by serial entrepreneur Simon Hackett who is still a major shareholder.

Since a strategic review last year, Redflow has transferred its manufacturing operations from North America to Thailand, where it is now successfully producing battery stacks — the critical component of its zinc-bromine flow batteries — and says it is on track to produce full batteries by June this year.

Redflow chairman Brett Johnson said the company was now focused on growth.

“After a year of change, we are enormously grateful for Richard’s leadership to establish the new factory in Thailand, which is the foundation for our next phase of growth,” he said.

“We have recruited Tim as chief executive to allow Richard to focus on his operational strengths in scaling up production from Thailand to deliver fully tested quality batteries. Concurrently, Tim will work with myself and our technology evangelist Simon Hackett to identify and implement the optimal growth and commercialisation strategies for the company overall.”
