Wanigatunga is Veeam's APJ head in the cloud

Backup and availability vendor Veeam Software has appointed Asanga Wanigatunga to the role of global cloud group senior director for Asia Pacific and Japan.

"Veeam has seen significant growth across the APJ region in recent years as more and more businesses are adopting a hybrid-cloud or cloud-first approach for their business," said global cloud group vice-president Paul Mattes.

"Asanga's extensive experience in leading teams further underscores our commitment to helping organisations adopt a multi-cloud strategy that helps them deliver Availability for their customers and partners."

Wanigatunga joins Veeam from VMware where he held a number of positions since 2010, most recently that of director for APJ end-user computing cloud services.

He previously worked for Symantec as a technology specialist.

"I am honoured to be given the opportunity to lead Veeam's already impressive cloud team across the APJ region," said Wanigatunga.
